What on earth am I going to drink?
Because of the China milk scare (toxic melamine), I have no idea now what milk is still safe for consumption. hehe.
I’m a milk drinker and an ultimate chocolate lover so you know, the issue really bothers me.hehe
Anyway, the Bureau of Food and Drugs has just updated its list of milk products to be subjected for testing to ensure the dairy products do not contain toxic melamine, which has been blamed for kidney problems of thousands of infants in China.
It was not immediately clear however whether those included in the list are already banned and have been ordered to be pulled out from the market.

Stricter rules for importers in the works
MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE) The Department of Health (DoH) is set to include milk products imported from countries other than in their list of products ‘for testing’ to ensure these do not contain the toxic chemical melamine, which has been blamed for kidney problems of thousands infants in China, officials said.
Aside from this, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said exporters will soon be required to disclose fully the ingredients of their products.
Duque and Bureau of Food and Drugs director Leticia Gutierrez, who attended a budget hearing at the House of Representatives, specifically mentioned Mr. Brown coffee from Taiwan, Heinz food products from America, and Lotte food products from Japan, saying these could contain ingredients from China.

MMDA’s Fernando: ‘No speed limit on EDSA’
MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE) Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Bayani Fernando went on record Friday to declare that there is no speed limit on busy Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
During the House subcommittee deliberations on the MMDA’s proposed P1.79-billion budget, Parañaque Representative Roilo Golez questioned Fernando’s use of “motorcycle security,” which the lawmaker called illegal since this is a privilege reserved for the president, vice president, Senate president, House speaker, Chief Justice and chief of the Philippine National Police.
But Fernando justified his motorcycle outriders, saying he was “implementing traffic rules” when he took them with him.

DepEd wastes millions in bungled projects–House group
Unused books, defective computers cited
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education has wasted millions of pesos in government funds by mishandling several projects, according to the Congressional Planning and Budget Department of the House of Representatives.
In a document dated September 2008 and released to media Wednesday, among the projects mentioned were the:
• Purchase of P667.95 worth of multimedia equipment that were found to be defective, not appropriate for the schools where these were distributed, and were thus were not maximized for classroom instruction in 13 regions.

RP listed as among most corrupt countries–watchdog
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has been listed as being among the most corrupt countries in the world, according to the anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International.
In its latest Corruption Perceptions Index, with zero being the most corrupt and 10 as being the cleanest, the Philippines had a score of 2.3, and was ranked 141st out of 180 countries surveyed.
