Jun Lozada blogs too

Met him thrice in several coverages and though I am really a fan (hehe) of the smiley police general, Director General Avelino Razon, I admit I believe Jun Lozada’s side of the ‘abduction’ story.

See him at http://jlozada.com/.

Meet beetlecar :)

May 31, 2008 Thea Alberto 2 comments

I think it is proper to introduce my favorite car in the world, Nixlove’s first car: a vintage, red Volkswagen beetle. :) I love it NOT JUST because it is Nixlove’s car. :) I think that like its owner, Beetlecar is simple, low-maintenance, smart, practical, lovable, and cute. :) hehe :)

We had a lot of funny anecdotes with and about Beetlecar ( a cute name, indeed :D ), including our unplanned trip to Alabang Town Center which led us to our baby bear, Padingtun :)

Me and beetlecar in the second pic :)

Beetlecar practically witnessed our early days. :) Back when I was still a college student in UPLB, we’d go to IRRI to eat lunch courtesy of beetlecar; drove a bit around the peaceful town of Los Banos and ’round the Humanities building and the Cooperative inside the campus for my driving lessons while Padingtun, the cute baby bear, sat like a good boy at the back. :) Nixlove would sometimes take me home or fetch me early in the morning with Beetlecar–or even to my annoyance (rarely though), I would actually wake up competing with Beetlecar for Nixlove’s attention! :)

We’ve also gone to several VW festivals where Beetlecar mingled with Karman Gias, Kombis and Golfs and more vw Beetles in different colors! :)

I wish Beetlecar would last until Nixlove and I are old enough to be called vintage. :) Equally, I wish to grow old with Nixlove, the only driver I would forever be in-love with. :)

MANILA, Philippines — Robbery with homicide charges have been filed against six persons — three of them already in police custody — allegedly responsible for the bloody May 16 robbery of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) branch in Cabuyao, Laguna.

Charged were Richard Gomolon, a former Army soldier police said was positively identified by a child as one of those who first entered the bank; RCBC security guard Joel Dela Cruz; Jesus Narvaez, who authorities said surrendered; Danilo Letoquit, who allegedly arranged the procurement of the getaway vehicle; and Allan Bago, who was identified by other witnesses from a police rogues’ gallery.

FULL STORY HERE: INQUIRER.net

I hope the PNP finally got the real suspects. I fervently hope they are not just another bunch of fall guys.

As promised, here are some of the photos I took during the Genesis bus hostage taking.

(Rey Digo finally allowed policemen to rescue one of his hostages who he earlier shot. The man however died because he was brought to the hospital too late, which was three hours after the shooting.)

I will be keeping several other photos in my laptop’s and my own memory because gory images need not be here.

Anyway, here are more:

(UPDATE 9) Pampanga hostage drama ends, suspect dead

Hostage taking (and love)

Lubao, Pampanga–Ironically, I wrote in my previous entry that my beat is a dying one. I was wrong.

If you’ve been following the news, there were at least three big crime stories for this day alone, with around six people dead in separate incidents.

In Calamba this morning, a suspected gang leader (yet another,) was killed as he shot it out with police while authorities served a search warrant. In Zamboanga shortly before lunch, at least two were killed when an improvised explosive device went off near an airbase. A messenger was also killed when motorcycle-riding robbers took over 100k from him.

And now, just about two hours ago, I witnessed yet another breath-taking assault when policemen decided to attack a hostage taker, initially identified as Rey Digo. He was allegedly mad at his wife that he went on a shooting spree inside a Bataan-bound Genesis bus. One of his co-passengers was killed.

See what love can do. It made Rey Digo so mad, he’d rather kill or die than accept the reality his wife slept with another man. Hay. The mysteries of the heart.

I took several pictures and videos, which I hope to upload tonight as soon as I am back home, safe.
Whew! Good thing I’m not your journalist-in-heels today, else I’ll be blister-full by now.

Oh, my boyfriend (hihi) Nixlove just started his blog! :) I am just too happy (despite the day’s bloody coverage)

“My girlfriend, Thealove, lives a dash-and-daring life as a breaking news reporter. The union of academia and journalism seems odd (though I was once a campus journalist myself), but when you find the best partner for the long journey of life you don’t let her go,” he wrote in his profile page. :)

This is my kind of love. :)

My dying beat

Believe it or not, PNP, in general, has become a sleepy beat. Except for occasional crime stories, there are no other ways I could send some really readable stories.  It’s always been a slow news day–although this is a good thing in times when you feel lazy. But I don’t like it that way, all the time, obviously.

I try making rounds in Camp Crame, as I did in the past, only to go back to the press office empty-handed. It’s been like that since January 2008 (or should I say late last year, after the Manila Peninsula). And I’ve been VERY VERY ashamed of not being able to produce earth-shaking stories. Good thing, there were former Comelec Chairman Abalos and Jejomar Binay–at least I have something to write about aside from PNP.

Hmm. Yes, there are inspection stories. There was also the Jun Lozada abduction, which was a really hard slap on Director General Avelino Razon’s face (poor guy, I must say. I bet it’s really hard not to obey Madame ).  There was the RCBC robbery, which–I’m afraid–is losing readers’ interest because PNP seemingly is playing it all up, after the Tanauan “rub-out.” As much as I want to keep the readers’ eyes on this news, I can’t get anything to spice it up now. Good thing I recently gathered leads on the suspects. BUT THAT WOULD HAVE TO WAIT BECAUSE I COULD NOT PREEMPT POLICE OPERATIONS. URGH.

Anyway, I also observed left-leaning groups have been silent lately. Or was it just me who’s out of the circle? Really, I haven’t heard much from them since the labor day and the May 11 transport strike, and some reactions on the power crisis. Was that silence a manifestation of the seemingly dying clamor for truth (I hope not)? Or are they just preparing themselves for a bigger war, waiting to explode at the right time, right place?

I’m typing non-sense now. I’ll end it here.

THE MOODS OF A WOMAN (got this from an email years ago)

May 27, 2008 Thea Alberto 1 comment

An angel of truth and a dream of fiction, a woman is a bundle of contradiction.

She’s afraid of a wasp, will scream at a mouse, but will tackle a stranger alone in the house.

Sour as vinegar, sweet as a rose, She’ll kiss you one minute, then turn up her nose,

She’ll win you in rage, enchant you in silk,

She’ll be stronger than brandy, milder than milk,

At times she’ll be vengeful, merry and sad,

She’ll hate you like poison, and love you like mad.
